Merel Ritsma

Merel is founder and managing director of Six Sigma & Lean Merits. She has an international track record in management, business transformation and process improvement. She started her career at Procter & Gamble at their European headquarters, working in a variety of financial assignments. She then joined General Electric as part of their internal consulting group, where she was responsible for leading strategic and operational projects at 8 of its business units across the USA, Europe and Asia.

In 2001, upon certifying as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, she returned to the Netherlands to become Operations Director at GE Capital. As GE improvement leader, Merel trained numerous Black and Green Belts and coached hundreds of improvement projects during her career. She is a certified GE Change Acceleration Program (CAP) Coach. In addition, she is a frequent guest speaker at international Six Sigma and Lean conferences, author of multiple articles and Senior Member of the American Society of Quality (ASQ).

Merel holds a BSc. in Operational Research from the University of Kent (UK), a Masters from the University of Lyon Business School (France) and a Masters from the College of Europe (Belgium). She is on the faculty at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and ING’s Business School in the Netherlands. Merel is both native and resident of the Netherlands, although work takes her anywhere across the globe.
